Decoupage is one of the most versatile, accessible, and satisfying crafts you can do — and it is having a major moment right now in the furniture painting and home decor world. Whether you are transforming a thrift store dresser, customizing a wooden tray, creating one-of-a-kind gift items, or adding detail to a mixed-media canvas, decoupage lets you achieve beautiful, professional-looking results with surprisingly little experience and very affordable supplies.

At Bluebird Mercantile we carry premium decoupage papers from Decoupage Queen and Mint by Michelle — two of the most respected names in decorative paper crafting. Decoupage Queen is an Australian brand celebrated for its stunning high-resolution artwork and the exceptional quality of its thin, pliable paper. Decoupage Queen papers are designed to wrap around curved surfaces, conform to edges, and integrate so smoothly into painted finishes that they look like they were always part of the piece. The artwork ranges from vintage botanicals and classical prints to bold geometric patterns and whimsical illustrations.

To get started with decoupage you need three things: a decorative paper, a decoupage medium or gel, and a painted or primed surface. Tear or cut your paper into the shapes you want, brush your medium onto the surface, lay the paper down, smooth out any bubbles, and seal with another coat of medium on top. That is genuinely all there is to it — and the results can be absolutely stunning. Decoupage works beautifully over Fusion Mineral Paint, chalk paint, and most acrylic painted finishes.
